Successful writing and defense of doctoral dissertation, publishing of research findings in top academic journals as well academic career is closely related to the development of research competences which include deep understanding of research, theory building and testing capacities and appropriate writing and publishing skills.

The purpose of this seminar is to disclose the research process, the main criteria of good research paper and
doctoral dissertation, and the most effective ways of writing up and publishing research findings.

During the seminar doctoral students will consider and analyze the following issues:

• Reflect on their goals and rationales for writing a thesis as well as discuss characteristics of good research questions.
• Explore the fit between research question, theoretical foundation and methodology.
• Relate their fields of interest and research questions to adequate publishing outlets.
• Become familiar with key quantitative and qualitative research methods and challenges in management research.
• Relate research methodologies to their own projects.
• Consider the publication implications of their methodological choices.
